Do You Find Yourself Feeling Sleepy All the Time?

What is sleepiness?

Sleepiness is a term that refers to the desire to fall asleep and unwind. If we take a real life example, imagine you had a good dinner that included all of your favorite things to eat, your stomach is full and you are relaxing on a rocking chair. It is getting darker and you find your eyelids become heavy and slowly without even noticing you doze off completely. That feeling or sensation is known as sleepiness. Sleeping is very essential for a human body to function. Sleeping for 6 to 8 hours is considered to be the optimum sleep a human body needs. However, sometimes people tend to sleep excessively and that is not the best behavior for the human body.

What makes you too sleepy?

Medically speaking, there are several causes why you might feel sleepy all the time. In this age and era, with Covid -19 taking a grip all across the globe, depression and anxiety has been a very common symptom for sleeping excessively. Below are some other reasons that contribute in making you feel too sleepy all the time.

  • Sleeping Disorder – There are many sleeping disorders that can make you feel a little too sleepy. For example, excessive daytime sleeping can affect your night time sleep schedule causing you to feel sleepy at work. Moreover, your sleeping disorder can intervene in your everyday routine.
  • Food consumption - Eating food that is enriched with Tryptophan, this can make you feel drowsy, and this is the reason why sometimes when you are done eating lunch or dinner, you want to hit the bed, even if it is just for a short power nap.
  • Fatigue – one of the main causes of sleepiness is fatigue. Your body is designed in a way that after reaching an optimum limit, it needs to rest. The best way for your body to rest is sleep. If you are not sleeping properly, then the chances are that your body may have a set back and you feel sleepy all the time. This can affect your work life and personal life majorly. Hence, it is recommended to have a proper sleeping routine in order to avoid day time fatigue.
  • Depression and Anxiety – Usually stress can cause you to feel very sleepy. It happens because your brain is designed in a way that it keeps on looking for different means to escape reality, especially when the reality is too dark or twisted.  So sleeping seems to be a solid way to take a break from everything that is happening around. In such cases, it is recommended that one must consult a doctor in order to find out the cause of depression or stress.

Conclusion

All in all, it can be said that although sleeping is important, excessively sleeping can be an alarming indication for a bigger disease that could be looming around the corner. Hence, it is best if you consulted your doctor beforehand.
